Job Description: The Security Guard is an integral part of the Security team. This role provides a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. This is accomplished through Crisis Intervention, preventative patrols, alarm monitoring, emergency response, investigation, and report writing. The Security Guard will assist clinical teams with potentially aggressive patients to reduce the harm to patient, self and others. This role will also assist Human Resources for employee-related needs, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, policies and departmental standard operating procedures. The successful candidate supports and collaborates with security/switchboard dispatchers as required.

Qualification Needed:
- Valid Security Guard license with
the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
required.
- Post-Secondary diploma from a
recognized educational facility in Law and Security, Police Foundations or
Law Enforcement or Protection, Security and Investigation in the Province
of Ontario
- BLS Certification required
- Minimum of two (2) years’ security
experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Security experience in a mental health
care setting preferred
- Knowledge of local, provincial,
and federal legislation pertinent to Security Operations including the
Mental Health Act
- Knowledge of the Fire Code and use
of fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment
- Demonstrated non-violent Crisis
Intervention skills and verbal de-escalation skills
- Ability to react to and coordinate
response to a variety of stressful and crisis situations
- Proven problem solving and
decision-making skills in emergent and critical situations
- Ability to recognize and respond
quickly to situations that are an obvious significant safety risk
- Demonstrated ability to provide
excellent customer service and public relations skills, communication
skills both oral and written, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner
- Advanced investigation skills and
detailed report writing skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and
commitment to patient and staff safety
- Ability to adapt and work within a
constantly changing environment and within a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated working knowledge of
computer software (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Ability to meet the physical
demands of essential duties of the position

Work
Hours:
The successful
candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department,
which are currently 12-hour shifts. In addition, this position must be flexible
to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of
the department.
Conclusion
Successful candidates
must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to
your first day of work and provide a receipt of vaccination from the Ontario
Ministry of Health.
